From Wayne
I for one do not have a problem with this concept. We will only truly be
able to contact any advanced life, be it God or what/who-ever, when we
have developed the prerequisite sensitivity to that Consciousness. The
analogy is with recently discovered lives in some of the depths of the
oceans, or of new discoveries by Hubble. These lives and discoveries
always existed. We simply did not have the sensitive instruments to
record or, in the case of deep sea creatures, to visit their environment.
Our quintessential problem is anthopocentrism. It colors our entire
outlook and keeps us arrogant. This arrogance colors our hypotheses and
our research. We have yet to make the psychological step that is
correspondence to the Copernican discovery. We still think that the
world and universe revolve around us. This is at its zenith when we
refuse to accept no-thing as plausible unless our concrete mind can grasp
it. While I have deep respect and even admiration tinged with envy for
the worlds of physics and cosmology, still there is little research by
the Western scientific mind into the reaches of consciousness. It seems
most effort revolves around the mechanics of consciousness. But that’s
another story.
Cosmic Reflections: In(tro)duction to Gaia(Or, instead of slaying the Real, can the mind reveal the Real?)
Does the Planet Earth think?
a. Is the thinking human a greater creation than a planet, a sun, a
solar system, a galaxy? Who but man could think he is greater? (or,
Define quintessential anthropocentrism.)
b. Is you brain a greater creation than your personality, which
integrates all aspects of you, your physical, emotional, mental,
psychological aspects?
If the Planet thinks, does it think on a higher level than we think?
Cannot the Whole be at least equal to the sum of It’s parts? Could it not
be greater?
Is our thought – individual, massed/herd, and/or conscious group – a
component aspect of It’s thought? Which of these forms would most closely
approximate It’s thought? If it thinks, does It have a Purpose? (Does It
have a direction for It’s life?)
If our thought is an aspect of It’s thought, is our thought consonant or
dissonant with that thought?
a. If dissonant, what would we expect? Or, what is the origin of
present Chaos, pain and suffering?
b. If consonant, what would we expect? Or, what is the resolution of
Chaos, pain and suffering?
c. What is the purpose and right use of free will?
Given that a hierarchy of intelligence exists within the human family and
a hierarchy of intelligence even extends downward to the lowest form of
life, if the Planet thinks, can mankind, in its vanguard, anticipate
attaining the level, or near the level, of thinking which the Planet
experiences? (Or, if there is a soul, does it have a compelling,
evolutionary role? If the soul exists, can we not contact it consciously?
Is there a practical use of faith?)
If mankind can eventually attain or approximate the thinking of the
Planet, may there not be a hierarchical strata of intelligence between
the human and that of the Planet, much as there is a hierarchy of
intelligence both within the human family and ranging from the human
downward? (Or, may there not be Elder Bretheren Who are already upon the
Way?)
If mankind, individually, in group formation, and ultimately
collectively, can approximate the thinking of the Planet, is there a
method of mental training which we can begin now to use to condition us
to one day achieve that goal?
If the goal is a possibility, and the technique of conscious evolution
towards that goal exists, would not the process be enhanced by the effort
of like-minded individuals, joined in conscious endeavor to acheve that
very goal? (Or, what form of human consciousnes is most conducive to
relating to or contacting the thought processes of the Planetary Life?)
If the goal is real or even a remote possibility, and a technique of
training or discipline could be instituted to at least begin the process,
could there be any other endeavor in life that should take primary
function or primary purpose? (Or, is the spiriutal path a practical
undertaking rather than a mystical one?)
