Not everything in the human info processing system will map directly onto a world-mind
model. The work of individuals and groups can be seen as the inputs and
outputs of society, can’t they?
It has seemed to me for some time that we cannot contact any higher level
of consciousness until we, in some manner, are able to “mimic” that
higher consciousness. We, as humans, must determine the next stage of
consciousness that brings us closer to a planetary consciousness, or
planetary mind. Our usual realm of thought is individualistic and
separative, is it not? (Peruse the Internet Newsgroups if you think not!
:=)) What if this is inconsistent with the mind of the planet? The
planet enfolds all life, knows wholeness, has wholeness just as much an
aspect of its awareness as we have individuality an aspect of our usual
outlook. What all religious messengers have given us is a vision,
couched in various symbols, of this wholeness. We have yet to develop a
more modern language for describing this expanded area of
awareness.(Although with the Internet and current studies on
consciousness, I believe we are very close.)
From the stance of advanced individuals, the next step seems to be the
intentional development of a sort of group consciousness. This
group consciousness could be a better receptical to the thoughts of the
planetary mind than could an individual, would it not? This is because
the sense of separative individuality must be transcended in order for
group consciousness to occur. (Those of you who study ANN may have
thoughts about organization and higher consciousness as related to
groups) Teilhard showed us in his writings that complexification in
nature leads to higher intelligence, and, presumably, higher
consciousness. We approach the deep mystery of the purpose of
consciousness. If we can purposely evolve in consciousness, particularly
toward the consciousness of the planet, is this not a useful reason for
consciousness in the first place? Would we not, individually and
collectively, benefit if we so evolved? Does it not take a creature who
can ponder the meaning of consciousness, to purposely evolve toward the
planetary consciousness?
